Bachelor of Theology
BTH
The four-year eight semester Bachelor of Theology BTh is the seminary's primary clergy formation program. It is offered on campus exclusively for seminarians preparing for the priesthood or monastic orders. Students complete the program concurrently with the Diploma in Syriac Language and Liturgy, and dedicate a ninth semester to writing a 40–60 page Bachelor's thesis.
Curriculum and Study Format
The BTh program covers the following areas: Sacred Scripture; dogmatic, liturgical, moral, pastoral, and ascetical theology; the Church Fathers; Church history; canon law; religions and ecumenism; philosophy; the humanities; the Syriac language; and the rites and hymns of the Church. The first year is a preparatory year focused on Syriac, English, Arabic, and the Holy Bible. During the second, third, and fourth years, students typically complete approximately 16 credit hours per semester, in addition to language course credits. All courses are mandatory for regular students, who are expected to attend consistently.
To graduate, students must earn 120 credits with at least a 60% score, including a 20-credit thesis.
